Tendinitis and PRP treatments -

What is Tendinitis?

Tendinitis is a condition characterized by inflammation, irritation, or micro-tears in a tendon, which is the thick cord that attaches muscle to bone. It often occurs due to repetitive overuse or sudden injury and can affect any tendon in the body but is most common in areas subjected to repetitive motions, such as the shoulders, elbows, wrists, knees, and ankles. Tendonitis typically presents with symptoms such as pain, tenderness, swelling, and decreased range of motion in the affected area.

What is PRP and does it work?

PRP or Platelet-Rich Plasma is a regenerative therapy that involves extracting a sample of the patient's blood, processing it to concentrate the platelets, and then injecting this platelet-rich plasma into the affected area of the body.

How does it help with Tendonitis?

PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) therapy helps tendonitis by leveraging the regenerative properties of platelets to promote tissue repair and reduce inflammation in the affected tendon. When PRP is injected into the site of tendonitis, the concentrated platelets release growth factors and bioactive proteins, such as platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β), and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). These substances stimulate various cellular processes involved in tissue healing, including cell proliferation, angiogenesis (formation of new blood vessels), and extracellular matrix synthesis. Additionally, PRP therapy modulates the inflammatory response, suppressing pro-inflammatory cytokines and promoting the activity of anti-inflammatory factors. As a result, PRP helps to accelerate the healing process, reduce pain, and improve the structural integrity of the tendon, ultimately aiding in the resolution of tendonitis symptoms and promoting functional recovery.

Recovery?

Injections for tendonitis typically involves an initial period of rest and protection of the affected tendon. Patients may experience some soreness, swelling, and mild discomfort at the injection site immediately following the procedure.
